For many older people in Wales who may be in need of social care services, the option of living independently continues to be more appealing than entering residential care. Service models that promote independent living may offer this opportunity and deliver cost savings in comparison to other, more traditional approaches.
The Social Services Improvement Agency (SSIA) and Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF); and in partnership with the Older People & Ageing Research and Development Network (OPAN), Swansea University; South East Wales Improvement Collaborative (SEWIC) and KT-EQUAL are pleased to be hosting this unique National Conference.
This event brings together the latest research ideas and developments from across the UK in relation to Extra care, supported living and other innovative housing solutions in the UK (specifically considered within the Welsh context).
Professionals, executive and strategic leads from across the health, social care and housing sector will have a unique opportunity to participate in this conference which will combine inspirational speakers and interactive workshops covering a range of topics including whether Extracare is for fit or frail older people; and wider perspectives on other forms of innovative housing solutions for older people. There will also be a ‘market place’ showcasing the range of accommodation models available and the positive outcomes they are achieving for older people.
Speakers and contributors include:
- Professor Gail Mountain, KT-EQUAL
- Dylan Kneale, International Longevity Centre UK
- Melville Knight, Group Chief Executive, Castleoak
- Emma Stone, Director of Policy and Research, Joseph Rowntree Foundation
